The Uller (Kit Fox) is a Clan Light Mech which emphasizes firepower over mobility compared to other starting and second Rank choices. Defensive torso twisting and situational awareness are the keys to maximizing its effectiveness, due to the combination of comparatively lower speed and arm-mounted weapons. A skilled Uller pilot can wreak havoc on other lights, or punch well above their weight in larger battles.

Gameplay Hints

Overview

As a glass cannon, the Uller demands cautious play. An Uller pilot needs to quickly identify winning matchups and weakened targets that can be dispatched with its massive firepower. While it's less maneuverable than most of its competitors, it remains armored and agile enough to dive in on targets of opportunity and survive. Choose your engagements wisely, and always have an escape route planned before committing to a team fight. Above all, stay on the move, or else your arms won't be attached for very long. The Uller is a great choice if you're confident in your aim and awareness, offering pure performance over economy or flexibility.

Prime

Starter Asset

A generalist focusing on short range and long range engagements.Alpha strike at close range and twist to preserve your arms, use the SRM6 for screen shake.

Player Comments:
Most of the Ullers have a decent amount of heavy weapons, so if you need a mech to do some long range harassment and to be able to hold its own in a brawl, this is the perfect mech for that. Play it like a fat skirmisher and make it the centerpiece of team fights.
Willow

Variant A

Powerful sniper, devastating if fielded early game. Keep your sensors passive and reposition between salvos to avoid return fire.

Player Comments:
Keep engagements at 700 meters where you can engage with your cERMLs, because with the addition of the gauss, you should be out-burst damaging other similar-tonned assets at that range too. Mind the health of your arms tho, that's where all your weapons are.
Willow

Variant B - "Badger"

Unmatched short range brawler with GECM. Try to skirmish and engagements to where you can afford to fire your cUAC20 for its full duration and then get back into cover for its cooldown. Avoid jamming it in sustained brawls.

Player Comments:
The cUAC20 in your arm is likely going to be a priority target for the enemy, so I recommend minmaxing your engagement window and playing this as a hit and run skirmisher. Move as close as you can to your target without being seen, then move out and engage as fast as possible. Jamming your gun is not usually recommended for UACs, but you will want to get out as much damage as possible before the enemy starts to focus your arm. twist away as best you can when the return fire comes in. If the enemy is NOT focusing you in a team fight, or if you are in a 1v1, then don't jam your gun and use the small lasers only during your gun's cooldown - you should be able to out-DPS anything at similar tonnages.
Willow

Variant C

Punishing DPS with MASC to facilitate hit-and-run tactics. Use your extra speed to attack vulnerable flanks and other targets of opportunity.

Player Comments:
Great DPS variant. Great at hit and run, but the hitscan of the cMPLs is especially good in team fights if you can sit at range and you can saw off arms and components. This is also one of the best early mechs to do tank hunting with given the bonus damage and raw DPS from the HMGs. Just watch your arms, they are priority targets, but you will likely win 1v1s regardless.
Willow

Variant D

Dual LAMS anti-missile support mech with decent long range weapons. Stay near high-value friendlies to protect them.

Player Comments:
Why does anyone take the D? 2xLAMS. That's all you need, baby. Cheapest solution for Arrow IV rain if you've got low money. Keep your radar on so that the LAMS can work, and stay behind cover or poke from long range.
Willow

Variant E

Starter Asset

Dedicated brawler with excellent DPS. Effective counter-pick for vehicles and Battle Armor. Expect frequent rearms.

Player Comments:
Pilot this bad boy like an Assault mech. Find the deepest piece of cover that you can in the cap zone and be the center of your team fight. Isolate targets to fight 1v1s and decimate them. Try twist fighting as much as you can to get the most out of your armor, or stare with your cSPLs if you know you can out-DPS your opponent. Mind the heat and mind your ammo, no spare heatsinks and no free tons.
Willow

Variant F

Starter Asset

Burst damage skirmisher, thrives in urban environments. Treat the Streak SRMs as your main weapons.

Player Comments:
Great upfront alpha strike with the HLL and the flurry of Streaks. Poke from cover once your heat bar can afford another alpha, or if you are in a sustained brawl, chainfire the streaks after your opening salvo to keep up the DPS and the screen shake and avoid using the HLL again until you can afford the heat. Dump coolant if you really need to use the HLL to give fleeing opponents something to remember you by.
Willow

Variant G

A cLRM missile boat that is strong in the mid game against larger targets. Take advantage of your speed and agility to skirmish from short to medium range.

Player Comments:
I think that this is actually a sleeper brawler because you've got the speed to keep things outside of your 10 meter minimum range, the LRMs can track slower targets better, and targets at close range are going to have a harder time getting behind cover. The DPS is quite considerable and so is the screen shake, especially in sustained fights. Focus on using the missiles in brawls because the cERMLs aren't as heat efficient, so I recommend using the lasers only if you're actually skirmishing or if you have fleeing or poking targets with tiny engagement windows. Keep your speed up. It's a budget Vulture.

Comparisons

Commando - Tougher and more agile, similar builds but with less weapon tonnage. Tricky but often favorable matchup.

Anubis, Owens, Locust IIC, Solitaire - Don't chase these, just shield your arms and return fire to ward them off. These pilots want to kite you forever, using their mobility to avoid return fire until your arms are removed.

Osiris, Raven - Favorable matchups, lacking distinct advantages to leverage in most cases. Beware of pilots with defensive torso twisting skills.

Chevalier - Tougher and equally dangerous, bring Light Kinetic weapons to whittle away its side armor, or get close and blast its surprisingly weaker front, turret, or back armor.

Harasser, Hephaestus - Dangerous combination of weapons and speed, but even more fragile. Avoid their weapons until you can close in to guarantee a kill.

Mithras - Equal or superior firepower, but also quite vulnerable. Approach with caution; corner it and rip through a side if possible.

The Kit Fox is a light Clan OmniMech with long-range combat as a primary focus, earning it the Inner Sphere codename of Uller, after the Norse god of archery. The Kit Fox was another light OmniMech designed by Clan Cloud Cobra, and was first produced in 2890 with the aid of new resources coming from the Tanite Worlds. Rather than emphasize speed, the Kit Fox emphasizes armor and firepower, complementary to the role of the Fire Moth.

Date Introduced 2890 during the Era known as "Early Succession War" (2781 - 2900) - Unit Role: Sniper
